Why is it important to monitor the PH of the water and within what limits should it be maintained?

What is the pH of water?

pH is a scale for measuring the acidity or alkalinity of water. This measure is used to determine the concentration of free hydrogen ions in water and is measured on a scale of 0 to 14. Water with a pH of 7 is "neutral" because it is neither acidic nor alkaline. Values below 7 are acidic and above 7 are alkaline.
Normal pH for pools

The optimum pH for pool water is considered to be between 7.0 – 7.4. In this range, water is comfortable for bathing and is less likely to cause skin and eye irritation to bathers.
Why is optimal pH important?

Maintaining a normal pool pH has several benefits:

Improves water quality: Correct pH ensures clean and clear water and reduces the risk of algae growth and bacterial growth.
Bathing comfort: Water with a properly balanced pH provides a more pleasant bathing experience and reduces the risk of skin, eye or respiratory irritation.
Equipment durability: Improper pH levels can cause corrosion of pool equipment such as pumps, filters and pipes. Maintaining an optimal pH extends the life of the equipment.
Chemistry Effectiveness: Water treatment chemicals such as chlorine are more effective at properly balanced pH levels, reducing pool maintenance costs.

How is the pH of pool water measured?

To measure the pH in the pool, special water test strips are used, which are crumpled in the water and change color depending on the pH level. After a short time, the color is compared to a scale on the tester package that indicates the current pH level.
How to adjust the pH of the pool water?

Once you measure the pH levels in the pool and find deviations from the optimal values, you can adjust the pH to bring it back to the correct values. For this purpose, use an acidity corrector (pH minus) to overcome the high values and an alkalinity corrector (pH plus) for the low ones.

Repeat the process of measuring and adjusting pH regularly to ensure consistently optimal levels of acidity and alkalinity in your pool water. This will not only ensure clean and safe water, but also extend the life of your pool equipment.
