Overflow channels play a crucial role in calming the waves generated by swimming. Imagine the pool equipped with multiple shallow overflow channels. The turbulence that arises, especially in the outer lanes, would be extremely significant. This significantly hinders swimming. The depth of the overflow channels must be carefully chosen because if they fill up too quickly, they will not fulfill their function. Typically, it is above 50 centimeters. Sometimes two overflow channels are placed one after the other to achieve a greater effect. It's worth noting that the Olympic pool has 10 lanes, but only 8 of them are used. The remaining two serve to calm and reduce the waves generated by the swimmers.
